Shirui Peng

Before joining Caltech in 2019, I received a BS from Peking University and a MS from Stanford University. I am interested in understanding complex systems like the ocean. I work with Jörn Callies and colleges in seismology to develop seismic ocean thermometry that uses sound waves generated by natural earthquakes to monitor temperature changes in the deep ocean. I am expanding the method to the Kuroshio Current and using ocean circulation models to calibrate this method and study tropical waves in the deep Indian Ocean. Outside of research, I like exercising, reading manga, playing music, and hanging around in the neighborhood.
